There’s something special about shopping vintage, with every piece feeling like it has a story to tell. But what if you could put a contemporary spin on your favourite vintage pieces?
That’s just what sisters Kimberly and Sara had in mind with their lifestyle shop, Fraser & Co.
The cozy Chilliwack, B.C.-based boutique sells a mix of modern and vintage clothing and home decor items. The inspiration for the business came from the sisters’ childhood of thrifting and visiting garage sales with their mother. “As we got older, we started to appreciate the sustainability aspect and the thrill of finding something beautiful in an unexpected place,” says Kimberly.Beyond being trendy and classic, the shop’s collection of brands is carefully curated, so you can create a home and style that best reflects you. But shopping vintage also comes with other benefits; it’s far more sustainable.
“We love that vintage and sustainability work so well together,” says Kimberly, “Choosing to shop vintage can be an important step away from fast fashion and towards more conscious consumerism.”
Peruse the shop and you’ll find stylish, vintage home goods and apparel, along with local sustainable brands the duo has been busy sourcing. As experts will tell you, shopping vintage is more sustainable because recycling and reusing items means fewer polluting resources are being used to make new clothing and goods. It also prolongs the life of an item and saves it from being thrown away.
“We are all about sustainability when it comes to what we sell which is why vintage is a huge part of who we are,” says Kimberly, “We also we think it’s beautiful!”
“We’ve put our hearts and souls into this little business of ours,” Sara adds, “We are so passionate about bringing vintage pieces back to life with a modern look, and we’d love for everyone to experience our shop and all we have to offer!”
