And remember, at the end of the day, it is not just what you’re carrying to the beach that matters. With so many crowds flocking to the sand at this time of year, it can be easy to forget that this is home to a diverse ecosystem, which all of us need to protect. Make sure to pick up any plastic bottles or litter you see lying around, level out sand castles and holes when you leave so that wildlife doesn’t get stuck in them, and follow all the signs that have been placed to respect the marine life.

6. Swimwear
There are plenty of brands that create sustainable swimwear and are committed to making pieces that have less of a negative impact on the environment. One of our favourites is Canadian brand Londre, which has a minimum of six recycled plastic bottles in every swimsuit. All of the water used in production is chemical-free and able to be reused, plus the minimal packaging is made from corn, so it’s compostable as well as recyclable. 7. Reusable Food Wraps
Cut down on single-use plastic waste at the beach by skipping on concession and bringing your own snacks.
