Transition your skincare routine to include these clean formulas that will keep your face nourished and healthy throughout the warmer days
The beauty and skincare industry continues to evolve when it comes to creating ethical products that focus on using sustainably sourced and organic ingredients that are kind to both your skin and the planet.
For spring, it’s time to pay more attention to ultra-hydrating, lightweight formulas that are anti-aging, protect you from harmful UV rays, and retain your natural glow. From dewy eye creams to illuminating primers and vitamin-packed serums, I’ve gathered some of my favourite green products to enhance your skincare and makeup routine this season.
1. Glow Ritual Vitamin C Serum by Antipodes
Tried, tested and true, this lightweight illuminating serum has become a holy grail for me in the mornings. It’s packed with vitamin C (thanks to kakadu plum, which contains 100 times more vitamin C than oranges); bakuchiol (a natural retinol alternative); and plant-based hyaluronic acid that brightens the skin, protects against anti-aging and heals dark spots overtime. Apply a few drops and massage across your face and neck before using your SPF and moisturizer.
2. Water Lock Moisturizer + Refill Pod by Tata Harper
Formulated with orange peptides, pomegranate spheres and hyaluronic acid, Tata Harper’s moisturizer is like a drink of water for your face. I love that it is 100 percent free of silicones, fillers, toxins and artificial fragrances. It’s so hydrating you’ll even be able to skip out on primer before applying makeup. The best part? Your purchase comes with one recyclable refill pod that you can put into the jar once finished to cut down on waste, then just keep replacing the pod as needed.
3. Watermelon Toner by Glow Recipe
Taking inspiration from the Korean Aqua Peel Facial which works to remove impurities, this 100 percent recyclable glass bottle is filled with amino-rich watermelon extract, cactus water, PHA , BHA, hyaluronic acid and tea tree extract to exfoliate, tighten pores and lock in moisture. Glow Recipe thrives on plumping and hydrating the skin, which is why it has become such a household name. Gently pat into skin until fully absorbed as your first skincare step post-cleanse. Oh, and it smells amazing!
4. Superfood Cleanser by Youth to the People
Filled with antioxidants, this Superfood Cleanser leaves your face feeling refreshed without drying it out. It’s basically like a green juice for your skin, thanks to ingredients such as kale, spinach, green tea and alfalfa. It’s also 100 percent vegan, safe for all skin types, and can be used both morning and night.
5. Zero-waste Mascara by Izzy
This zero-waste beauty brand is a game-changer, and is seriously committed to making products that don’t harm your skin or the environment. Izzy’s mascara is 100 percent-certified CarbonNeutral®, recyclable, cruelty-free and reusable. It comes with no outer packaging, and ships in reusable mailers created from upcycled materials. Your purchase comes with a 90-day supply of product. If you sign up to become a member, you’ll receive a reminder to send your product back in your shipper, and it will be refilled and sent back to you. Simple, effective, and innovative!
6. Hydro Grip Primer by MILK
The worst thing you can do in your makeup routine is to apply products on dry, bare skin. MILK’s award-winning primer is a 94 percent natural gel formula infused with blue agave extract, hyaluronic acid, aloe water, niacinamide and hemp-derived cannabis seed extract to, like the name promises, grip hydration and illuminate the face. It will also keep your makeup from budging for up to 12 hours, which is very important for those warmer days.
7. True Skin Serum Foundation by ILIA
Swap out thicker foundations for something lightweight this season. Clean beauty brand ILIA’s True Skin Serum comes in more than 20 different shades (12 of which are new), and is an easy-to-use buildable formula with medium coverage. I absolutely love that it feels weightless and natural on the skin, plus ingredients like niacinamide, aloe and allantoin help to smooth the face with each wear.
8. Signature Lip by Merit Beauty
Plant-derived squalane, vitamin C and sunflower seed oil are the active ingredients in this moisturizing lipstick by vegan brand Merit Beauty. It comes in eight different shades, including neutral, natural pink and dark brown that are lovely for the warmer months, especially if you’re trying to achieve a sun-kissed look.
9. Berry Bright Vitamin C Eye Cream by KORA Organics
An eye cream is another must-have, because the skin under our eyes is extremely delicate and sensitive. Target wrinkles, dryness and dark circles with this formula by KORA Organics that has an abundance of vitamin C (thanks to kakadu plum), kangaroo paw flower and cloudberry—all of which boost radiance and energize the skin. Tip: the consistency is a bit thicker, which means you do not need to use too much at once.
10. Gel Watercolour Eyeshadow by Kosas
I fell in love with the concept of a clean gel-based watercolour stick for the eyes, so I had to try this one out—and it did not disappoint. Not only is it incredibly easy to use, this formula is long-lasting, and very dreamy. Available in six different shades, it’s just the right amount of pearly sheen you need. Plus, it’s packed with a number of beneficial ingredients, such as jojoba oil, shea butter and anti-aging galactoarabinan to work some nourishing magic.
11. 100% Squalane Oil by Biossance
If you are looking to be more eco-conscious and cut down on the number of products you purchase, invest in a multitasker that can do several jobs at once. One of my favourites is the 100% Squalane Oil by Biossance that can be used on the face, hair and body. Squalane is a powerful ingredient which is bioidentical to the moisture found in human skin, and this particular formula is derived from sustainable sugarcane, making it both vegan and ethically sourced. It’s lightweight, very hydrating and safe for sensitive skin.
12. Clearly Clean by Farmacy
Say goodbye to cotton pads and bottled products. Key ingredients such as sunflower seed oil, papaya enzyme, and moringa seed will remove even the most stubborn makeup, while purifying and gently exfoliating your face. Specially formulated for sensitive skin, Clearly Clean is free of fragrances, essential oils, dyes and synthetics. Using the spatula provided, take a generous amount and massage it into the skin with your fingers using circular motions. Rinse with water, and wipe off any residue with a warm cloth.
